Updates to ACORD Forms and Legislation/Litigation Affecting Brokers, Agents, and Insurers

  • October 21, 2010

In September 2009, ACORD made a number of changes to the ACORD 24 and ACORD 25 certificate of insurance forms. (The prior editions of these forms could be used up to September 2010.)  The main change involves removing the text stating the insurer would "endeavor" to send the certificate holder written notice in the event the policies at issue were canceled.

This course will discuss the reasons for these changes and how they will affect the practices of agents and brokers.  In particular, the course will discuss what types of inquiries agents and brokers can expect to receive from clients, as well as what types of risks those inquiries present.  The final part of the course will discuss recent legislative efforts and litigation pertinent to the insurance industry.

This course has been approved by the CA Deptarment of Insurance for 3-hours of continuing education credit; course #248547.
